Advance reservations required. Groups that arrive without reservations may not be able to gain admission and will not be eligible for admission discounts or facilitated programs.
Elementary Field Trips
Museum educators guide you and your students through hands-on experiences in the History Colorado Center exhibits to explore different people and places of Colorado history. Exploration culminates in a timeline sequencing activity. Aligned to Colorado Academic Standards, the program features skills and concepts covered in third and fourth grade but can be adapted to other grade levels.
Students:
- Do 1920s homestead chores
- Learn the ropes in a 1890s silver mine
- Explore a giant floor map of Colorado
- Play a trade game in Bent’s Fort
- Put up a Plains Indian tipi
- Make a LEGO brick cliff dwelling
- Go for a ride in a Ford Model T
Duration: Two hours
Times: 9:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm
Cost: $5 per student; 1 free chaperone for every 10 students; $8 for each additional adult
Lunch room available by request, space is limited.
Middle and High School Field Trips: Democratic Principles in Colorado History
Students explore how democratic principles have not only evidenced themselves throughout Colorado’s history, but also how they have come into conflict in different historic eras. The program is designed for middle and high school Civics and US History classes.
Program includes:
- Pre-visit classroom activity that introduces students to principles of democracy
- Exploration of the History Colorado Center’s exhibits
- Post-visit classroom activities that synthesize and expand the students’ knowledge
Duration: Two hours
Times: 9:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 p.m.
Cost: $5 per student; 1 free chaperone for every 10 students; $8 for each additional adult
Lunch room available by request, space is limited.
