Tim McKernan: The Barrel Man
400 Games. 30 Years. 1 Barrel. 0 Pairs of Pants.
Would you risk hypothermia to prove your love of the game? Tim McKernan—“Barrel Man”—did just that. Arguably the Denver Broncos’ biggest fan ever, he attended every home game for thirty years, naked except for a bright orange barrel, a cowboy hat, and boots. McKernan first wore the barrel in 1977 after a bet with his brother. From then on, he wore the costume rain or shine, even in sub-zero temperatures. He only quit at age 67 when his doctor insisted. Barrel Man is honored at the VISA Hall of Fans at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Photo courtesy History Colorado, 10027575.
